Judges announced for Virgin Awards

Some of the sports' industry's greatest minds have been named as members of the official judging panel of the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards, entries for which close on Friday, 5 October, 2012. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 7 February, 2013.

Every member of the expert panel has unparalleled experience in the South African sport and business world, with the individuals ideally placed to determine the victor from the outstanding entries in every award category. Those winners will receive their trophies in front of the cream of the South African industry and leading sports stars.

The official judging panel will once again be facilitated by former Springbok captain, broadcaster and business entrepreneur, Bob Skinstad, who said: "Both as a player and latterly as a businessman, I have witnessed a rapid evolution of the South African sport industry across my career. I'm delighted once again to play my part in the judging process for the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards."

A number of new judges

Skinstad will be joined on the panel by a number of new judges including Carte Blanche anchor man Derek Watts; former ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat; and Nikki Cockcroft, chairman, DMMA and head of Bookmarks. They will join Ross Faragher-Thomas, MD of Virgin Active; James Monteith, director of BMI Sport Info; Danny Jordaan, the former CEO of the FIFA World Cup 2010 Organising Committee; Dr Ali Bacher, chairman of Right to Care; Bokkie Gerber, editor of Sport24; David Becker, international sports lawyer; Gareth Whittaker, MD of Thackwell and Whittaker; Janine Lloyd, MD of Livewired Public Relations; and Ashraf Garda, one of the country's most popular broadcasters.

The judging process for the Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards is transparent and stringent, with every step overseen by independent adjudicators Deloitte, which take full audited notes of all judges' comments and thoughts, ensuring total transparency.
