Enormous prize money lined up for Durban marathon

Athletics South Africa (ASA) announced today that over a million rand worth of total prize money is on offer for the Nedbank Durban City Marathon on 8 February.

First prize to both men and women winner will be R100 000, 2nd prize R50 000 and 3rd prize R20 000. Prizes will go up to position twenty. The 10km winners will also pocket a substantial R5 000 for the winner, 4 000 for 2nd place and R3 500 for the third place.

The wheelchair marathon race is one of the highly paid in the continent with a first place of R60 000, 2nd place R30 000 and third R15 000 to both Class T53/T54 and Class T51.

Only athletes that are entered in the South African Championships by their provinces will qualify for team prizes. Cut off time for all races is five hours.

Marathon will start at 5h30, 10km at 6h25 and the wheelchair marathon at 5h25. All races will start outside the Kings Park Stadium at Masabalala Yengwa Avenue.
