Unusual eateries in the Cape Quarter

The newly opened Cape Quarter addition is the place to go for a new dining experience. Many of the restaurants are new to Cape Town and they flow on to the piazza and outdoor areas to create a relaxed Mediterranean environment.

Offering a trip around the world, all the restaurants are individually owned and have made their name through personal service and superb foods. Some are opening in Cape Town for the very first time so the experience will be unique.

BICCCS (Bread, Ice cream, Cake, Croissant, Coffee and Sandwiches) is exactly what it says with a seriously Italian twist. Having achieved great success in Gauteng Southern Italian patriarch Giovanni Mazzone and his South African protégé Gavin van Zyl now bring their baking expertise to Cape Town.

Cru Café Wine Bar & Restaurant is a new and funky restaurant where you can enjoy a casual meal and sample an extensive selection of wines from South Africa, but also offering some great international options. The cosmopolitan-style menu will please all tastes.

The child-friendly Lazari offers a casual alternative to fine dining with its Mediterranean menu and light, stylish meals.

Vanilla is set to bring fresh spice to Cape Town's gourmet scene. Manhattan-style fine dining is what you can expect from this brain-child of restaurateur Nigel Newhouse who is owner of the Tuscany Beach Restaurant on Camps Bay's beachfront. With Chef Matthew Gordon of Haute Cabriere and the French Connection as consultant, Vanilla promises to bring new glamour to the restaurant scene.

Voila! brings an exotic and slightly eccentric theme to the mix. A stylish retro café bar French contemporary food graces the menu and the atmosphere is cosy and friendly.
