Durban, the new destination of choice?

KwaZulu-Natal, with its well-known berg, bush and beach offerings, offers something for everyone - and more. Summer holidays are meant to be buckets of fun - and Durban delivers just that. There's no lack of things to do and places to go.

The famed Golden Mile, of course, is the magnet for holidaymakers. The fun never sleeps here. Stunning beaches (and the beautiful boardwalk - you can cycle, walk, skate or rickshaw from one end to the other), the extraordinary uShaka Marine World, the world-famous Moses Mabhida Stadium, and the vibrant Suncoast Casino, Hotels and Entertainment, to mention but a few attractions, in a city where visitors are spoilt for choice.

Durban, the new destination of choice?

Rent a bicycle and take a leisurely cycle along the beachfront, marveling at the golden beaches and the glorious Indian Ocean. Or sit and admire the dexterity of the bronzed surfers catching Durban's famous waves. Take surfing lessons (Roxy's Learn to Surf, for instance, which provides all surfboards, rash vests and wetsuits, and all you need is your costume and towel) for an unforgettable experience, or scare yourself witless with the southern hemisphere's highest water slide at uShaka's Wet and Wild Water Park. Called the Drop Zone, this 18-metre drop is guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping and your heart skipping a beat or four!

And if you're a real adventure junkie, and are brave enough to free-fall 80m into the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium bowl, this one's for you. The Big Rush Big Swing was named the world's tallest swing by the Guinness Book of Records in 2011. Not your average swing, if you're brave enough to take the thrilling leap swinging out into a massive 220m arc where you soar into the centre of the stadium. Not for the faint-hearted!

For a quieter moment, visit Umgeni Bird Park for a close encounter with our feathered friends, and the Sharks Board in Umhlanga, where you can learn all about these mysterious denizens of the deep - and even watch one being dissected.

For a multitude of family entertainment in one place, visit the delightful art deco flagship of Durban's beachfront, Suncoast Casino, Hotels and Entertainment.

It's far from being just the most popular casino around: there's also loads of family entertainment, with movie cinemas, fine dining restaurants and restaurants catering for families and children, including Café Vigour, Havana Grill, Kai Thai, Jeera Restaurant, Mugg & Bean, Cape Town Fish Market and Vida E Café amongst others.

For the young at heart, the Magic Company provides hours of fun with arcade games. They can play to their hearts' content, winning tickets and nabbing themselves some awesome prizes.

Feel the unique vibe of Durban's outdoor lifestyle with al fresco dining, soak up some rays on the SUNdeck, stroll along the boardwalk or simply relax on the sand. Blessed with fantastic weather all year, Suncoast Beach is the perfect spot to take it all in.

Suncoast has a partnership with the Pirates Lifesaving Club, one of the oldest lifesaving clubs in Durban. So visitors to Suncoast Beach can rest assured they're protected by the best, as the Pirates Lifesaving Club is right next door and the 400 active members are always happy to help out!
