The experience combines a one-hour tour with a live English-speaking guide and a 30-minute guided walk through the Bo-Kaap. The route includes Greenmarket Square, the Company’s Garden, the Castle of Good Hope, City Hall and the District Six Museum.

Inner city through local stories

Urban Xplorer is aimed at travellers looking to explore Cape Town's history, culture and communities beyond its more familiar tourist attractions.

The one-hour bus tour is led by a live English-speaking guide, who provides personal narratives, cultural insights and historical context on the city's heritage.

“Urban Xplorer is not just about sightseeing; it’s about uncovering the soul of Cape Town,” said David Henwood, CMO of City Sightseeing Cape Town. “Launching on Heritage Day during Tourism Month is the perfect moment to showcase our city’s diverse cultures, communities and stories in a way that is authentic, engaging and exciting.”

The bus tour is followed by a 30-minute guided walk in the Bo-Kaap, allowing guests to explore the neighbourhood on foot.

Included with Premium Combo

Guests who purchase a 1-day Premium Combo with City Sightseeing Cape Town can join Urban Xplorer at no additional charge.

A standalone Urban Xplorer ticket costs R95 for adults and R45 for juniors.

The experience operates at 10am and 12pm, starting and ending at the City Sightseeing tour office at 81 Long Street, Cape Town.

Henwood said the experience is also intended to connect visitors with Cape Town's local businesses and communities. “We are thrilled with this innovative new concept,” added Henwood. “Urban Xplorer showcases the authentic heart of our beautiful city, while championing local businesses and inviting guests to connect more deeply with Cape Town and its people.”
