Drive South Africa launches fuel cost calculator
Travellers can now utilise the tool to figure out how much money they can stash for travel savings in months the fuel price drops. When the fuel price increases the tool will tell users how much they will need to reallocate from other expense accounts* to spend on fuel.
The tool calculates monthly fuel spend based on the current fuel price as updated by South Africa's Department of Energy on the first Wednesday of every month.
South African road users have enjoyed fuel price drops consecutively over the past five months, however, with the fuel price set to hike over the next two months, starting from 4 March, there is bound to be a price drop once again, which is when monthly fuel cost calculator users will be adequately prepared for how much they will be able to feed into their adventure fund.
Four ways to calculate
The tool is designed to give all motorists an accurate monthly fuel cost calculation by offering four ways to calculate monthly fuel spend. "People think differently about the way they use fuel. Some people think about how many kilometres they've driven, how much money they've spent, how many times they've filled up their tank this month, or how many litres they've used. So we decided to build the tool so that everyone could use it," said Drive South Africa's Head of Digital, Renier van Schalkwyk.
"The idea of the calculator came about when we wanted to find a way to help our long-term car rental clients calculate their monthly fuel cost. It was only when a few of our internal team members started using the calculator for their personal month to month budgeting that we realised that every motorist could benefit from the fuel cost calculator. That's when we decided to create a microsite for the calculator.
