Getaway Facebook fans grow

The Getaway's Facebook fan base reached 21 000 in November 2010, the latest in a series of digital successes, confirming that it is growing its online platforms in response to the demand for electronic travel information and bookings.

In the past six months, it has won the SA Blog Award for Best Travel Blog and had its mobile site take off with over 10 000 unique visitors a month. The website page impressions moved from 90 000 in June to more than 375 000 in October, due to an online competition and the launch of four new newsletters - Getaway for Less, Getaway Foodie, Win with Getaway and Getaway Photographer.

Getaway publisher Jacqueline Lahoud said new ventures planned for next year include the expansion of the Places to Stay directory on getaway.co.za into a fully fledged travel booking platform. "With this development, we want to close the circle for our users," she explained. "We'll expand on our offering of inspiration and information to give people the ability to plan and book every aspect of their travel on one easy-to-use website."
