Trio takes mobile multimedia to new level

Sony is showcasing its three latest releases in mobile multimedia technology - the Aino, Yari and Satio. These phones sport innovative new features to suit a variety of needs - from remote PS3 and gesture control for gaming fanatics, to a 12 megapixel camera for ardent snappers.

Game control with Aino

Trio takes mobile multimedia to new level

The Aino offers the best of both worlds with the keypad combined with an intuitive touch user interface (UI) in media mode, giving users a clear overview and one touch direct access to their content.

Initially developed for PSP, the Remote Play function allows Aino owners to control their Playstation 3 and access its media content anywhere, anytime. This can be done via a local network between the PS3 and Aino at home or via the internet from anywhere in the world.

The mobile device introduces Media Home, an application that automatically pulls media content from Media Go™ on a user's PC over Wi-Fi to the phone. Users just insert the Aino in its charging stand and it automatically synchronizes with all the latest media content on their PC.

Other Aino features include:

  • 8.1 Megapixel camera
  • 3-inch, 16-million true colour TFT screen
  • Touch screen media/MP3 player
  • Web access with Google Maps and Facebook
  • 55MB phone memory with 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card in-box
  • Wireless stereo headphone MH100 and charging stand EC100
  • Dimensions: 104 x 50 x 15.5mm; weight: 134 grams
  • Supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 850/1900/2100.

The Aino will be available in the South African market in October 2009 in Obsidian Black.

“Sony Ericsson has established itself as the communication entertainment brand and Aino highlights our commitment to bringing the latest communication technology to the market in fun and innovative ways for consumers to enjoy,” says Sonja Shear, head of marketing at Sony Ericsson South Africa. “Media Home and Remote Play with Playstation 3 are key steps in broadening the entertainment experiences users can enjoy on their Sony Ericsson phone and gives a taste of our vision of the future.”

The new Satio offers crystal clear viewing on it's 3.5-inch, 16-million HD TFT screen, with 16:9 widescreen format. It provides access to all media in one place, allowing users to tap directly into their favourite features with the five standby panels.

Get moving with Yari games

Trio takes mobile multimedia to new level

Yari debuts Gesture gaming on mobile - allowing users to get in on the action as they make moves in front of the screen. With nothing to hold, no buttons to push and a variety of games to choose from, from fitness games, to tennis or boxing, the Yari brings new freedom to mobile gaming.

“Yari is the industry's first mobile phone with gesture gaming outside of the Japanese market,” said Shear. “It's time to move like you've never moved on a mobile phone before! With Gesture gaming you move your body to play instead of pressing buttons on the phone, giving you a fun experience that even helps you keep fit. If you've exhausted yourself with the games there are loads of other multimedia features to enjoy. Snap your friends with the five megapixel camera or chill out to your favourite tunes with the state-of-the art music player.”

In addition to gesture games, there is a mix of pre-loaded motion and standard games. Yari introduces a games carousel that allows users to access all their games from a PC and to browse downloadable content on PlayNow arena. Content can be viewed by category, with the option to browse free or premium content.

For an enhanced gaming experience, the phone comes complete with the EC500 phone stand. The stand is small and portable and comes with an integrated key ring, making it easy to carry.

Yari's features also include:

  • 5MP camera with face detection and geo tagging
  • MegaBass, SensMe and Shake control
  • Outdoor Wireless Speaker MS500 compatibility
  • Web access and Google Maps
  • Video calling
  • 3D games and dedicated gaming keys
  • 2.4-inch, 262,000 colour TFT screen
  • 60MB on-board memory with 1GB Sandisk MicroSD card in-box
  • Dimensions: 100 x 48 x 15.7mm; weight: 115 grams
  • Supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSDPA 900/2100.

The Yari will be available in South Africa from October 2009 in Achromatic Black.
