The Media anniversary

The Media, South Africa's only magazine focused exclusively on the media sector, has just published its 13th issue and will continue on its path as an independent commentator and opinion maker.

Over the past year, the publishers have featured high profile cover stories and tackled a variety of issues. The positioning of the title as a 'must read' for those who believe that the media has a significant role to play as the Fourth Estate has paid off, with positive reaction from the private and public sectors.

In-depth interviews with influencers such as Peter Matlare, Marcel Golding, Joel Netshitenzhe, Mandla Langa and Nat Kekana have appeared as cover stories. Features on different media sectors have been produced, with an emphasis on the brands and the content makers behind them, offering a fresh insight into the passion that supports media products. Writers associated with the publication have been chosen for their acclaimed writing abilities and insight. These include Denis Beckett, David Bullard, Graeme Addison, Thebe Mabanga and Donald Paul.

Aside from the hard-hitting cover stories, The Media's features have highlighted issues such as the growth and pride emerging in the Afrikaans media sector, the continued increase in media consumption within the Black market, the sport sponsorship phenomenon, plagiarism in the industry and the media scene in other Southern African countries.

In addition The Media has established an annual Women in the Media event that coincides with annual women's month celebrations in August. Further events along these lines are planned for 2004.

"We are proud of what we have achieved in a short space of time," said editor Kevin Bloom. "Our brand is well known and we have received letters and positive comments from people with the highest journalistic standards, who claim to respect our independence and editorial integrity."

In a further development, Michele Munro has joined the title as National Sales Manager. She was previously in the outdoor industry and has a track record in the media and advertising market.
