The workshop explores the writing process and examines the film process, taking writers through the process of shaping the idea into a story, and developing the story into a character and plot driven narrative that will form the basis of a screenplay that could make a unique South African film.
Â
During the workshop the writers will challenge their creativity and learn how to write for a visual medium. It also looks at writing for television, the stage, or novels.
Â
A major part of the workshop focuses on developing characters and the relationship between structure and the screenplay.
Â
The trainer is Daniel Dercksen, who has been teaching workshops in screenwriting throughout South Africa the past six years, as well as the Newtown Film School and City Varsity film and Television School in Cape Town. Dercksen is also a published film journalist and playwright and has several screenplays in development.
Â
The workshop is ideal for first timers who would like to explore the world of screenwriting, as well as professionals looking to further their craft and polish their skills.
