National Geographic launches online archive
This week the National Geographic Society started putting thousands of its culture and wildlife images up for sale in an online archive.
The Society says that it is responding to an increasing demand for computer accessible images from clients, which include ad agencies and publishers.
About 10 000 photos from the Society's archive of over 10 million images will initially be moved to the online archive. Thereafter, up to 3 000 will be added each year. The archive, which is browsable by keyword, can be found at
