Strategic new appointments at Pick n Pay

Gerhard Ackermann, previously the merchandise director at the Shoprite Group, and Gustave Moller, responsible for the creation and expansion of Shoprite's U-Save format both locally and in Africa, have joined Pick n Pay in senior positions. The group has also announced a number of changes to existing reporting structures within the company.

Ackermann, who has joined with immediate effect, will work with CEO, Richard Brasher and food merchandise director, Peter Arnold on strengthening the company's price and promotional strategy within the planning department. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of trading within this market.

Moller will join the planning department early in May and will focus on format development plans, working closely with Brasher and the retail and merchandising departments. He has valuable experience in trading in emerging markets.

Current operations director, Neal Quirk will take on additional responsibilities for the group's general merchandise and clothing divisions. In addition to his existing duties as a member of the group executive, he has extensive experience in the non-food side of the business and will work closely with Arnold.

GM: Gauteng operations, Wim Theron will take responsibility for all regions, in addition to his current role.
