South African company wins augmented reality award in London

The AR Summit 2013 is described as the world's biggest gathering of leading technology providers and innovative brands looking to discover, explore and embrace the concept and possibilities of AR.

The competition is intended to bring the best in AR from around the world recognising and rewarding companies that have developed innovative AR products. The summit is a platform for creative companies that are adopting new techniques, enhancing technologies, and pushing the industry forward.

Garden Route genius

Fuzzy Logic was founded in 2011, in George, as an independent mobile video games and app developer. Its aim is to design apps and games that are simple to use but also cutting edge in functionality, appearance and design.

Jason Ried heads the team as the MD. He returned to South Africa after 10 years in the UK gaming industry as a producer for Eidos Interactive and Disney Interactive. With well-known titles such as 'Championship Manager' and big budget 'Split Second' under his belt, he has a clear idea of what 'fun' in the future looks like.

"We are thrilled to be recognised as AR Developer of 2013. This demonstrates how the most simple of ideas can lead to an interactive and brilliantly original campaign. To be ranked as the best augmented reality developer in one of Europe's most prestigious awards is a major accomplishment for our team," states Ried.

Two nomination

In addition to winning the Best AR Developer 2013 award, it received two award nominations in the categories for Most Innovative Use of AR 2013 and AR Awards Champion 2013. The entries were judged based on imagination, innovation and uniqueness, commercial feasibility, market perception and achieved results/ROI.

Birthday Card AR revolutionises birthday cards, using AR to transform a simple 2D birthday card into an exciting interactive 3D experience. The goal of the AppTag range of games is to bring video games to life, allowing kids to play shooter games against each other in any physical environment.
