Internet governance forum opens today

A two-day South African Internet Governance Forum (ZAIGF), aimed at creating an inclusive information society, opened today at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Kempton Park, Johannesburg for academia, business, civil society and government.

The objective of the forum is to create an inclusive information society, create a multi stakeholder information sharing platform and formulate the common South African position with regard to the global internet governance. It will also discuss issues relating to critical Internet resources and facilitate the exchange of information and best practice through the full use of the expertise of the academic, scientific and technical communities.

The conference is organised by the Department of Communications, which has adopted the Geneva Action Plan and the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society, endorsed by the heads of states.
