Top Empowerment Companies 2005 launches this week
The Financial Mail's annual Top Empowerment Companies (TEC) survey will be published with the magazine on Wednesday, 2 March 2005. All listed SA companies have been thoroughly researched by the FM in conjunction with empowerment rating agency Empowerdex, the FM's research partner for TEC.
TEC is the only publication that ranks companies according to empowerment through an entirely independent and credible research process.
The publication lists the top 185 listed companies, ranked by their empowerment statistics. The publication will, as far as possible, use the department of trade and industry's Codes of Good Practice as its measurement standard. It also ranks companies within industries and ranks companies that perform best in the various empowerment factors.
The publication will also provide key statistics and editorial analysis on all the chosen companies. First published last year, the TEC, according to FM editor Barney Mthombothi, "quickly became the definitive reference for empowerment of listed companies and it will be more so this year." Its independence and thoroughness make it the most credible ranking of empowered companies.
The empowerment factors considered when deciding scores for companies are: black ownership, black management, employment equity, skills development, affirmative procurement, enterprise development and corporate social investment.
