Info bill deadline extended
NEWSWATCH: The deadline for comment on the much unloved - by the media, anyway - Protection of Information Bill - has been extended to 31 March 2011, reports Times Live. Meanwhile, the 'handling' of news around Nelson Mandela's recent sojourn in hospital has drawn fire from both sides of the fence - one blast being from a king, no less, according to the Mail & Guardian.
For more:
- Times Live: Deadline extended on contentious information bill... Well, that's one step, but why not just scrap the thing altogether? After all, when the sex life of Banjo the Bonobo could be classified as a secret (according to an IOL report, zoos could classify information in terms of the proposed bill, as it is drafted at present, isn't it time to say... OK, we wuz wrong?
- Times Live: First lesson: don't lie to us... Is anyone listening out there? Justice Malala has some advice for the authorities when next Madiba is laid low... And the message is... Don't lie.
- Mail & Guardian: King condemns media presence in Qunu... Meanwhile, it seems King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, nephew of former president Nelson Mandela and leader of the AbaThembu clan, is cheesed off with the media doing their job - particularly, it seems, if it's in Madiba's home town and that means on his majesty's home turf.
