Fifa.com goes Brazilian
From yesterday, Tuesday 1 December 2009, Portuguese (Brazilian), the sixth language of FIFA's official website alongside English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic, went live.
The move to include Brazilian Portuguese has been made because Brazil is the host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, as well as being five-time winners of the World Cup with over 200 million native speakers. Stories concerning football in Portugal and Portugal's national side will be written in standard Portuguese.
The new version offers its users a full service, with all of the site's current features translated into Brazilian Portuguese. There will also be exclusive content from the site's dedicated Portuguese editors, as well as news feeds that will ensure that the website offers comprehensive coverage of local and world football, 365 days a year.
World Cup website involves fans
The World Cup section of the website has also been completely revamped as it prepares for extensive coverage of the 32 qualified teams, the key match-ups and the fortunes of the star players over the next six months.
The site will offer coverage of the final draw, including eye-witness stories, video interviews and features. Similar to the popular Emirates MatchCast used for the qualifiers, the live KIA DrawCast will allow users to follow live commentary and interact through FanChat as the drama unfolds.
There will also be an emphasis on involving the fans in the coming months. Users will have the opportunity to create a slogan for their team's bus in the ‘Be there with Hyundai' promotion, and the Panini Virtual Sticker Album, presented by Coca-Cola, will also be launched in early 2010. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets on site, as the next sales phase runs between 5 December 2009 and 22 January 2010.
The statistics and services are also enriched by the efforts of the site's editorial team, who work on a daily basis at various locations around the world to ensure comprehensive coverage of the World Cup as well as world football in general.
