ASOM comments on Ad Racism Hearings

Financial Mail examines the upcoming hearings on racism and transformation in the Ad industry on Nov 6&7 and suggests that discussion could include "media ownership, black employment, allocation of adspend and how to reach the right audiences, content of advertising and even gender.".

The portfolio committee on communications chairperson, Nat Kekana, said in July that the advertising industry is "lily white, unlike the majority of the people in this country". He would like to create a platform for dialogue.

ASOM executive director, Howard Gabriels, is also quoted "this is an opportunity for the industry to engage constructively with the issues and to find concrete solutions for the concerns that have been expressed".

Everybody concerned seems to be entering the discussions with an open mind. Bizcommunity will carry extensive coverage.

Please visit Financial Mail for extensive comments by ASOM's Howard Gabriels. The AAA and PMA is also mentioned.
