The fundraising model is based on the concept of pre-paid filing fees – pay now, and lodge your complaint free in the future. “It’s also about marketers doing the socially responsible thing. Not all marketers will lodge complaints, but if the ASA collapses, all marketers will be affected by the subsequent fallout and government regulation.”
The ASA has received contributions ranging from R10,000 donations, to the R24,396 filing fee requested of each marketer, to contributions from R150,000 to R1,050,000 from marketers who understand the importance of the ASA.
“We can’t rest yet. All marketers and agencies who have not yet contributed need to think hard about how important self-regulation is to the industry,” concludes Schimmel. For more information, click here.
