Jet's nationwide soccer programme takes off
Jet, a member of the Edcon retail group, has announced its sponsorship of a nationwide soccer community service programme.
In September the company announced its R1, 5 million sponsorship of the High Performance Centre - based at the University of Pretoria - as part of its commitment to identify and develop soccer talent in SA.
In addition to the sponsorship of Jet Amatuks, which competes in the Mvela League, the investment has also allowed for the creation of the Jet Soccer Academy, where talented youngsters will receive individual skills training.
Jet has now announced that it is extending its efforts into every corner of SA through the Jet Amatuks Community Service Programme, which will host twelve coaching clinics around the country from November 2005 to April 2006.
The first clinic took place at Zwide Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Monday 28 November, with over 100 local school children. What makes this first event even more notable is that when Maritzburg United - Jet Amatuks' opponents in the Sunday Mvela League game - heard what the Amatuks were doing they asked to be included.
