The German Travel Association (DRV) and Angola’s Institute for Tourism Promotion (Infotur) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the DRV Capital Congress in Berlin. Two initiatives are planned for 2027: a delegation visit to Angola by senior German tour operator representatives and a DRV Destination Forum in the country.
The agreement aims to raise Angola’s profile in Germany, support tourism product development and strengthen commercial connections between the two countries.
The planned delegation visit will give German tour operator executives the opportunity to experience Angola first-hand and explore opportunities to develop and market tourism products.
The Destination Forum will focus on travel distribution professionals, helping build awareness of the destination among those who advise travellers and influence booking decisions.
DRV President Albin Loidl said: “Angola offers an impressive diversity and great tourism potential. At the same time, the destination is still relatively unknown in the German travel market. With our cooperation, we want to help change that.”
He added that the delegation would bring decision-makers from the German travel industry to Angola, drawing on their experience in developing and marketing tourism products.
The subsequent Destination Forum will aim to inspire travel distribution professionals to promote the destination. Loidl noted that tourism potential translates into business when destinations are known, suitable products are available, and travel agents can confidently recommend and book them.
Infotur director-general Allicia Santos said Germany represents an attractive source market for Angola, with the partnership intended to introduce the country’s diversity to German travel professionals and establish lasting relationships between tourism businesses.
“Germany is an attractive source market for Angola. With this partnership, we want to introduce the diversity of our country to the German travel industry and create long-term connections between our tourism companies,” Santos said.
Beyond the two planned initiatives, DRV and Infotur will continue to exchange insights on market developments and travel trends, while working together to develop and market tourism products and strengthen business ties between the two countries.
Although the agreement focuses specifically on the German source market, its emphasis on product development, destination awareness and closer industry collaboration is relevant to the wider Southern African tourism sector.
Angola offers a varied tourism proposition, from dramatic landscapes and waterways to urban culture and local experiences. Continued efforts to develop its international market presence and tourism readiness could create opportunities for multi-destination itineraries across the region.
For South African tour operators and travel advisers, the developments offer a reason to monitor Angola’s evolving tourism offering and consider how the destination might feature in future itineraries.
