Show profile Hide profileENGLISH TEACHER, SHANE ENGLISH SCHOOL, TOKYO 20 JUNE 2017 - 21 DECEMBER 2018 (18 MONTHS) Working as an English teacher in Japan for an "Eikaiwa" (English conversation school) where I taught a wide variety of different people from different walks of life; from children (ages 4 -16), adults (foundation level to advanced) as well as business students. Class sizes went from private 1-on-1 lessons to groups of up to 6 students.
Responsibilities:
? Improving student's communication skills.
? Catering lessons to students based on their individual strengths, weaknesses and personal objectives.
? Creating a lesson plan for every lesson before teaching it.
? Having a working knowledge of all the course work available to students.
? Providing counseling sessions for students every 6 months where they analyze their own strengths and weaknesses and ask for advice on how to improve in specific areas.
? Testing and grading students every 6 months using a standardised test provided by the school.
? Teaching lessons according to a strict pacing schedule where specific units of language had to be taught within a lesson.
? Providing trial lessons to potential new students.
? Assessing the English level of potential students and placing them accordingly.
? Attending regular teacher training workshops.
? Keeping comprehensive records of all students (Attendance, performance, objectives, skills etc.).
? Having parents observe their children's lessons every 6 months where they graded teacher performance.
? Giving speaking clinics to other teacher's students every 6 months where their overall communication ability has to be assessed and graded.
? Dealing with any specific complaints or queries students or their parents may have. ? Being extremely punctual (As being 3 or more minutes late for work could lead to disciplinary action). ? Working together with Japanese student counselors to ensure students are completely satisfied with their learning experience.
? Teaching special event lessons based around popular holidays (e.g. Christmas, Halloween).
As a teacher I was well liked and popular across all student demographics (especially business students) receiving praise for being amiable, patient and having a practical yet entertaining teaching style.
ORGANISATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY TUTOR, RHODES UNIVERSITY 20 FEBRUARY 2016 - 03 NOVEMBER 2016 (8.5 MONTHS)
A part time job I had while completing my honors degree.
Responsibilities:
Facilitating the learning of a group of 15 2nd year organizational psychology students.
Conducting weekly tutorials sessions where the students and I would discuss concepts students had learnt in lectures that week.
Answering queries and dealing with problems students have.
Briefing students on what will be expected of them with regards to tests and assignments.
Grading assignments and returning them to students with feedback.
Invigilating test sessions (handing out tests, answering questions, making sure no one is cheating etc.) Attending weekly tutor meeting where we would be briefed on what is expected of each tutorial session.
