interested in the research side of nature conservation, especially of land mammals. have experience in this already and looking for a job that will allow me to continue working in this field. willing to work for a minimum of R3000 if staying on site or if location is near to my residence. willing to relocate and am available immediatly
Show profile Hide profileI am a 24 year old female who has a National Diploma in Nature Conservation, and am currently studying my final year for a B-Tech in Nature Conservation which I will complete in June 2011 due to my subject choices. I have a code 8 driver's license and am available immediately.
In the past i have headed up my own authorised official research project in collaboration with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Mangosuthu University of Technology on Wild/Painted Dogs looking at the different variables affecting their ranging patterns in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park
From working as a secretary in a Doctors office; in Guest relations at an aquarium and at several Game reserves I have administration experience in secretarial work; data collection from multiple source types; entering, evaluating and processing the data into collated documents; report writing using mainly Microsoft Office programs; dealing with people and doing community extension work.
From doing game counts and working as a research assistant at the Galaria Shopping Mall I have experience working out the demographics of the animals or people in a area into total counts; age; sex; etc as well as their compass direction and distance away
I have experience in the capture and release of large land mammals; inserting transponders myself and observing the placing of transmitters into rhino's anterior horns; field data recording and sample collection. Priority species monitoring, using both telemetry equipment and spoor tracking; looking after land animals in field and pen boma's and making the formula for and feeding a orphaned baby black rhino. I have worked with injured or baby marine mammals taking them in; rehabilitating them from the point at which the need to be given their food and medication via throat tubes until they were healthy enough to be released. I have done controlled burning; day and night field patrols on both foot and horse back; maintenance work and fund raising. I have learnt some of the theory of the different drugs; darts; tails; guns and traps that are used in game capture, why they're used, their advantages and disadvantages and how the disadvantages can be counteracted.
