FlySafair has launched a new route between Johannesburg and Lusaka, with five weekly flights connecting OR Tambo International Airport with Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
The service operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the airline citing sustained demand on the Johannesburg-Lusaka corridor.
The Johannesburg-Lusaka service departs OR Tambo at 7.50am and arrives in Lusaka at 9.50am. The return flight leaves Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 10.50am and arrives in Johannesburg at 12.50pm.
“Zambia has long been on our radar, and Lusaka is a route our customers have been asking about,” said Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer at FlySafair.
“The Johannesburg–Lusaka corridor carries a significant mix of business and leisure travellers, as well as South Africans and Zambians travelling to see family and friends. We’re proud to bring our fares and our reliability to this route and to make the connection between our two countries more accessible than it has been.”
Route supports regional connectivity
The new service connects South Africa with Zambia’s capital, which serves as an important commercial centre for Southern and Central Africa.
Lusaka is home to regional banks, mining and telecommunications companies and pan-African development organisations, while South Africa remains one of Zambia’s significant trade and investment partners.
The route also provides access to tourism destinations beyond Lusaka, including Livingstone and Victoria Falls, the Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa national parks.
“Our international network has been built on the principle that connecting South Africa with its neighbours should be affordable, not a luxury,” added Gordon.
“When we launched Cape Town to Windhoek, we brought fares down significantly on that corridor, and we intend to do the same on Johannesburg to Lusaka. Zambia and South Africa have deep ties, and we’re glad to make staying connected a little easier.”
