Groundglass to make feature film on prison gang leader
The National Film and Video Foundation (South Africa) will fund Groundglass in the making of a full feature on the life of 28s gang member, Turner Adams, planned for release in 2017.
This is following the screening of the production company's short film, Numbers, in the Sanctum Soho Hotel in London this August. Numbers, which includes commentary from Adams, gives insight into gang culture in South Africa's prisons. The secrets of the gangs, known as the 26s, 27s and 28s, are revealed through the hand-etched language of the inmates' intricate tattoos.
