Infamous Penny Sparrow passes away
The South Coast Herald Newspaper has reported that Penny Sparrow, who was known for her racism conviction, has passed away. She died from lung cancer.
The former KwaZulu-Natal estate agent was charged and convicted with racism after she shared a post on Facebook in which she compared black people at the beach to monkeys. Magistrate Vincent Hlatshway handed Sparrow a R5,000 fine or 12 months imprisonment.
She was also ordered to make a public apology for her remarks on her social media platform of choice, Facebook. The charge against Sparrow was brought by DA member and Black Like Me founder Herman Mashaba.
