Col'Cacchio pizzeria hands over dough
The proof is in the pizza! A culinary expert of a Bouillabaisse or Duck a la Orange can indeed master the basic Italian flat bread!
This was evident in the inaugural Col'Cacchio pizzeria Celebrity Chef Series; a six-month gourmet charity project which raised over R120,000.00 for the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital that will go towards the purchase of specialised medical equipment for the new operating theatre which opened in September this year.
Six of South Africa's top chefs were each invited to create their own unique pizza; selecting from Col'Cacchio pizzeria's wide range of available ingredients and including one mystery item. The Celebrity Chefs who participated in the challenge; Philippe Wagenfuhrer, Mike Bassett, Citrum Khumalo, Reuben Riffel, Margot Janse and Rudi Liebenberg received an overwhelming response from diners at all 17 restaurants and all 6 pizzas captured a different taste or experience with their innovative combinations.
Due to the success of this inaugural series, patrons should keep their eyes peeled for the 2010 campaign which promises to bring together the best in the culinary world to create another round of masterpieces on a pizza base.
