Plight of the Homeless campaign finale
The 31st of August saw the Grande Finale event of the Plight of the Homeless campaign at the Greenstone Shopping Centre in Edenvale. Radio 2000 was there to cover the entire event and all the proceeds made on the day has gone towards the Plight of the Homeless with Khanyisa an Edenvale based home for underprivileged children as the beneficiaries.
The event was spectacular and everyone in and around the Edenvale community came to have a good time with the Radio 2000 jocks. The day began with an ecstatic Rise and Rock Breakfast show hosted by Nicole De Silva and Ray White who got the ball rolling for listeners to pledge. Ray was the master of ceremonies for the fashion show later the evening and even got himself painted. Everyone was in high spirits and the mall was buzzing with people painted with the Radio 2000 logo. Michelle Constant held it down for the Lucky Packet Show and she had listeners contributing feverishly to the Plight of the Homeless campaign via the pledge line. Barney Simon did not disappoint the rock fans with his vibe on Friday night. There were live performances from Vortex; New Born Fire and Pluto was a Planet who had the crowd jiving to their beats. Not to mention the spectacular body painting fashion show that mesmerised the crowd with their colurful and skillful creations. The Hydro International College, a recognised Centre of Excellence in the health and beauty industry, hosted their annual body painting competition at the Greenstone Mall in Edenvale. The body painting competition has since its inception been a definite highlight on the social calendar of the Edenvale community and this year was no exception. The Edenvale and surrounding communities did not hold back with anything and opened their hearts by contributing loads of clothing, non-perishable foods, blankets and money for the less fortunate in our communities.
Radio 2000 has been determined to help make a difference to the lives of the homeless people in South Africa and thus far the campaign has made a distinctive difference to the 35 participating shelters.
A huge thank-you from Radio 2000 to Northgate Shopping Centre, The Mall of Rosebank, Somerset Mall and the Village Walk Shopping Centre and to everyone that has pledged or donated anything to the Plight of the Homeless campaign. Alvine Macaskill the marketing manager from the Mall of Rosebank said that "The Mall of Rosebank is pleased to have been part of the Plight of Homeless, the display and collection box setup within the Mall received a great response from the Rosebank community. We were able to have 13 collections since the campaigns inception at The Mall and the donations are still continuing to stream in." The Plight of the Homeless campaign may have ended on Friday, but everyone should continue to give back to those who are homeless and vulnerable in our country.
