MACRA offers four TV licences
Apart from the TV licence offers, MACRA is also offering seven licences for community radio stations and three for private radio stations.
According to the Communications Act, only the public broadcaster, the Malawi Television can broadcast across the country while private television stations can only broadcast within a specific region.
MACRA is therefore offering two TV licences for Malawi's commercial city of Blantyre and other surrounding areas and two more licences have been availed for the northern city of Mzuzu.
According to MACRA deputy director of broadcasting, Kelton Masangano, bid documents containing the required information and detailed criteria for the assessment of applications are available at their offices.
“Interested applicants will have these documents upon payment of K2,000 non-refundable fees although the authority is not bound to issue any of the licences herein to any bidder,” said Masangano.
He said applications that reach the body later than February 13, 2009 will not be entertained.
