More powerful strategy for more powerful business performance
The UCT Graduate School of Business' will again be offering its highly-rated Strategic Project Management course from 16 to 20 April 2012.
The course will be presented by Dennis Comninos and Chris van der Hoven, both acclaimed authors and international business consultants in the field of Strategic Project Management.
"The course is not just about project management," says Comninos. "It is about managing your projects more strategically. It does not help to manage a non-strategic project well - that is just a way to lose money more efficiently."
The course focuses on teaching business leaders to choose the right and most appropriate projects, anticipate risks more carefully and ensure that, once the projects are up and running, the process is implemented in a way that will benefit the organisation throughout.
Course outcomes include: a greater understanding of the issues and challenges facing the application of Project Management in a business environment; identifying the latest trends in the project/programme management domain; being exposed to the current thinking of project and programme management practitioners and consultants operating around the world; gaining exposure to new tools, techniques, and processes linking strategic, business, and project planning.
Attendees will also obtain a broader understanding of the project management domain and what constitutes "Strategic and Advanced Project Management", and arrive at a set of relevant practices and initiatives which can enhance the effectiveness of strategic project/programme delivery in their organisation.
Topics covered will include: ascertaining your current situation w.r.t. the effectiveness of project management, positioning project management more effectively in your organisation, and what is changing internationally. Students will also learn to select and prioritise projects more effectively, manage portfolios for maximum long-term sustainability, and select the best possible project team members. Change management, road mapping, benefits realisation, project leadership and governance and more strategic decision-making will also be discussed.
