CineCentre group brings movies back to Killarney Mall

The Avalon Group, a family dynasty established in 1939, is considered one of South Africa's largest and oldest independent cinema exhibition and entertainment company. Its CineCentre, reportedly rated among South Africa's top performing cinema groups, is opening five cinemas, each featuring the latest 3D, digital projection hardware and state-of-the-art Dolby Digital surround sound, in Johannesburg's Killarney Mall in October 2010.

"Killarney Mall is the ideal venue for our new CineCentre, with its longstanding reputation as one of the city's leading centres. The group is confident that our new venture will further enhance our stature as leaders in our industry and, by bringing a variety of Hollywood and Bollywood movies to the centre, we are catering for an untapped market in Johannesburg's northern suburbs," notes MD AB Moosa Jnr.

"Our longstanding relationship with industry mega-player 20th Century Fox is now in its 71st year - believed to be a world record for the longest uninterrupted relationship with this industry mega player."

It will also offer a fully dedicated Gold class theatre available for hire. This luxurious lounge-style, 64-seater cinema provides opulent comfort and enjoyment, perfect for special, yet private occasions.

Construction of the cinema complex - which will seat 708 people in total - is currently underway. Along with this development, further developments are being undertaken at the mall on the lower cinema level. These include the addition of select new restaurants and the renovation of the public toilets.

The new complex is a fitting tribute to cinematic history in South Africa, with Africa's first motion picture studio established in the early 1900's on the land that is now Killarney Mall. This area has long been recognised as South Africa's very own Hollywood.
