Present at the screening was Khomotso Manyake, the 13-year old making her debut in the title role, the director Schmitz, producer Oliver Stoltz, fellow actors Lerato Mvelase and Harriet Manamela, Minister of Arts and Culture Lulu Xingwana and NFVF CEO Eddie Mbalo.
The film is based on the international award winning novel 'Chanda's Secret' by Allan Stratton and was shot on location in Elandsdoorn, a township in the Moutse district near Bronkhorstspruit, Mpumalanga. It is a drama about a young girl who fights fear and shame in her community and captures the enduring strength of loyalty and a courage powered by the heart.
Oliver is of the opinion that films should primarily convey stories that evoke emotions that people can relate to. He further states, "If they change people's consciousness in a positive way, then that's a great accomplishment. Obviously, the film sends a strong message, but first and foremost, it's Chanda's story."
The second festival screenings of Life Above All took place on Wednesday 19 May and the third takes place today, Thursday 20 May.
