Naughty but nice expo for SA

Take your sexuality out of the closet and inject some fun into being an adult. That's the message of one of the world's largest adult lifestyle exhibitions, Sexpo, and it's coming to South Africa for the first time in September this year.

Sexpo first began in Melbourne, Australia, in 1996 as a forum for women to feel comfortable about buying adult products. The event has expanded into a broad ‘adult lifestyle' exhibition and maintains a strong female patronage (44%+).

Sexpo has, during the past 10 years, attracted more than 1.5 million Australians to its events down under and, says SA organiser Julie Swart, Sexpo Joburg will marry all forms of adult entertainment – from lifestyle to, of course, the naughty bits.

Think of it as a three-dimensional lifestyle exhibition, says Swart. Sexpo includes every aspect of what makes it great to be an adult – everything that helps us escape the monotony of nine to five. The exhibition will showcase the many aspects of an adult lifestyle; books, technology and gadgets, fitness, health, fashion, lingerie, wine tasting and the many products and services available in the sexual health hemisphere – it's naughty, but nice. Entertainment will include popular local acts, as well as international artists.

Exhibitions featuring themes of sexuality and sexual health have, during the past half-decade, become fixtures on most global exhibition calendars, including recent sex-themed events in Singapore, Paris, London and Germany.

Swart expects Sexpo Joburg to attract substantial exhibitors and high visitor numbers, saying that several exhibition stands have already been sold prior to launching the event. Public interest in the www.sexpo.co.za site has also been unprecedented, she reports. “A Sexpo in SA is long overdue,” says Swart, “and the last week of September this year will be a sextacular event on the Joburg calendar.”

Swart expects that Sexpo Joburg, which takes place at Gallagher Estate in Midrand 27 – 30 September 2007, will attract in excess of 30 000 visitors this year.
