Print Media & The Newspaper Association of SA appoints a new president

At the 9th Annual General Meeting of Print Media SA, an association representing the interests of 530 newspaper and magazine publishers in South Africa, Trevor Ncube, Mail & Guardian CEO, was appointed to take over the reigns from the outgoing President, Connie Molusi, CEO of Johnnic Communications.

Ncube, a newcomer to the South African media industry, accepted his new position as President of the association with enthusiasm and said: "I feel honoured by the confidence shown in me by my colleagues in the industry. I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to advance the interests of our industry and the broader community."

Born in Harare, Trevor Ncube started off his career in journalism in 1989 when he was appointed Assistant Editor at the Financial Gazette in Zimbabwe. In 1991 he was promoted to Executive Editor at the newspaper where he received the Zimbabwean Editor of the Year Award in 1994. He is also one of the founders and a shareholder of the Zimbabwe Independent and the Standard. At present he is the Executive Chairman of the aforementioned newspapers in Zimbabwe, and the Owner/CEO of the Mail & Guardian, since July 2002. He loves playing golf, reading and watching movies.

Trevor Ncube was also elected the Chairman of the Newspaper Association of South Africa, an association representing the interest of all metropolitan national daily and weekly newspapers.
