The instant messaging app is currently not allowing users to send or receive messages, with the dreaded spinning 'waiting wheel' alongside the "connecting" notification.
According to a report on Fin24, over 500 reports from South Africa were submitted to outage reporting website, Downdetector, from 10:18am.

[UPDATE]: WhatsApp is operating again after the global outage earlier today. According to reports, the problem was due to a server that went down.
