"The FSC is an international non-profit organisation that promotes responsible management of the world's forests by maintaining paper and deforestation standards, labelling compliant products and certifying proficient paper suppliers," he explains. "We are pleased to receive this certification and recognition and to do our part for the environment".

The FSC has been working hard to protect the world's forests, and by December 2008, 107 million hectares were certified to its principles and criteria. Accordingly, the company is now confident that its paper stock, which includes papers from mills such as Scheufelen, Cordenons and Tullis Russel are good for the environment and doing as little harm as possible.

"Continuous compliance is essential in order for us to ensure that we keep our certificate," adds Nadine Meyerowitz, marketing director of Papersmith & Son.

"A press release was issued on 5 August 2010 announcing Papersmith & Son has become the first paper merchant in the South African market to receive the coveted Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
