City of Cape Town partners with Africa Tech Week

After the success of the inaugural event in 2019, Africa Tech Week will be taking place again on 13 and 14 May 2020. This event is the first and largest of its kind in Cape Town. By promoting digital transformation, Africa Tech Week promises to show attendees why technology in Africa is surging ahead. The event promises to draw international participation, bringing together fresh and experienced thought leaders from more than 300 tech centres around Africa.
Founded to showcase Africa’s success stories and bring key stakeholders together to co-ordinate and lead Africa’s tech-driven growth, the conference attracts representatives from government, corporate South Africa as well as small, medium and micro enterprises.
“The main focus of Africa Tech Week is to educate businesspeople, entrepreneurs and governments operating in Africa to ensure we can overcome the unique challenges faced on the continent. Using technology to take advantage of the opportunities available in the modern world, we can ensure we survive and thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” says Ralf Fletcher, CEO and Founder of Africa Tech Week.
Africa Tech Week is poised to demonstrate that South Africa is a world-class technology innovation hub and primed for international investment. With its home in Cape Town, seen as the gateway into Africa by many international investors, the two-day conference and awards strives to create unity between the thriving tech hubs throughout Africa.
"The City of Cape Town is delighted that Africa Tech Week will be returning to Cape Town in 2020. As the digital capital of Africa, it is fitting that the that this event takes place in Cape Town. The tech sector is a vital source of employment and growth for our economy. We created an enabling environment for tech talent and are home to more tech startups than anywhere else on the African continent. Cape-based tech startups have proven to be more successful and generate a significantly higher revenue than their counterparts in other parts of South Africa. We're looking forward to welcoming delegates from across Africa and the world to our city," says Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member: Economic Opportunities and Asset Management.
As African organisations and governments prepare to harness and utilise digital disruption in a considered, strategic manner and take advantage of technology to innovate and create solutions that drive positive and inclusive change, all eyes are turning to the tip of the continent.
