Community TV Policy workshop starts today
The Community TV Policy Workshop started today, Monday, 24 May 2010, at 8am at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, East Rand, and will run until Wednesday 26 May. Hosted by the Department of Communications, it is reportedly a strategic vehicle to unlock the potential of the local content industry.
The workshop, intended for policy makers, regulators, content creators, aggregators and distributors, community broadcasters, funders, provincial, industrial, corporation and economic development and related agencies and academics, will discuss key strategic issues and develop a broad framework to ensure a successful launch of community TV in the country.
Key issues
- Policy/Regulatory environment (digital migration, draft PSB Bill, draft Local Content, etc.)
- Community TV as a vehicle to unlock the potential of local content industry, by providing a window for emerging content creators, and decentralisation of content production activities in predominantly rural provinces
- Viable business model eligible for public funding
- Creating synergy between community TV and other tiers of broadcasting system in the SA
