Bedding down on the beach with Minki

Platypus Productions' pilot of In Bed with Minki, the first advertiser-funded TV talk show for SA television, was shot on Clifton's Fourth beach recently. Featuring model Minki van der Westhuizen and a grande pink bed, the show will travel to glamorous locations.

Broadcasters are currently viewing the pilot which is the brainchild of Anthony Wayment, creative director - broadcast for Platypus Productions, in a collaborative partnership with HMS, a media management organisation that puts brands and celebrities together on media projects.

As an AFP format, the aim is to demonstrate to broadcasters and brands alike just how they can work together in order to deliver innovative first-class television. A multitude of corporate brands are vying to make this project come to life, but Wayment insists that "only a credible brand synergy between the programme, the broadcaster and the brand that makes logical sense and compliments each other will successfully fund and drive the series into production".

Directed by Dre van Niekerk, guests for the pilot included former Miss SA Thuli Sithole and Survivor contestant Danielle Vukic.

Production manager Tammi Horstman says she had the job most of her male friends would kill for: helping Minki get ready for her shots, which included helping her dress.

"Although the weather was perfect, it was tricky getting the bed down all those stairs and onto the beach. Interested on-lookers added excitement to the shoot," she adds.
