Dedicated business channel for Africa

CNBC Africa, part of the world's most successful business channel, is to start broadcasting on a dedicated channel from five African countries soon. In South Africa it will broadcast live from Johannesburg and Cape Town, said Zafar Siddiqi, chairman of CNBC Africa.

Africa, said Siddiqi, has moved from aid to value-based partnerships. He sees untapped potential and abundant opportunity.

He was speaking at the International Media Forum held in Johannesburg yesterday, Wednesday 20 September. The Forum brought together senior editors from the world's most important media with South African business, government and communications professionals. The Forum was partnered by the International Marketing Council of South Africa (IMC).

Saddiqi pointed out that Africa suffers from poor international opinion, which is due to poor communications, inadequate marketing and sensationalising of news.

CNBC will be a showcase for African business, both Pan-African and internationally. It will pass on Asian, European and US business news plus compelling local business stories.
