Spur raises R90,000 for anti-rhino poaching

Spur Steak Ranches raised R91,834 for rhino conversation, in just one week, in a cricket-themed promotion targeting its loyalty card holders.
Spur raises R90,000 for anti-rhino poaching

The initiative, run during Heritage Week, was in aid of the SAB Boucher Foundation, which actively combats rhino poaching. For every 500ml serving of Castle Draught ordered by diners, Spur Steak Ranches donated R2 towards the SAB Boucher foundation, run by SAB and former international cricketer, Mark Boucher.

To encourage participation in the promotion, Spur Family Card members were automatically entered into a competition for a chance to attend the South Africa versus Australia Test Match at Newlands next year. The four-day prize for the winner and three others, includes flights and accommodation, suite tickets, the opportunity to meet the Proteas team members, watch them practice and visits to some of Cape Town's iconic tourist spots. It was won by Michelle Vosloo of Thabazimbi, Limpopo, who had dined at the Eagle Mountain Spur.

Said group marketing executive Sacha du Plessis: "One of our core values is to show a spirit of generosity. Although the plight of rhinos has been well publicised, the need for financial support is ongoing and to keep the public engaged we were looking for a way they could benefit along with the SAB Boucher Foundation. Cricket was the obvious link. We were very heartened by how readily South Africans responded."
