SABC journalists allegedly assaulted by teachers
Two SABC radio journalists claim that they were assaulted and held captive by teachers at a school near Lomanyaneng, North West Province.
Ms Lexi Herholdt and Ms Nthabiseng Makhongoana were investigating a story of a school principal who refused to give learners reports because of non-payments of school fees. They say that after interviewing the concerned pupils two teachers man-handled and assaulted them. "They then locked the gate and instructed us to go to the office where they demanded to listen to the tape recording of the interview with the learners."
According to the journalists, the teachers threatened to beat them if they didn't hand over the tape-recording. After handing over the tape the journalists were allowed to leave. They reported the incident to the local police station and a case of robbery, intimidation and assault-common was registered against the suspects which will be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions after the investigation has been completed.
