New hotel in Kathu from Urban Hotels
The hotel is not only set to make its mark on travellers to the area, however, but also on the town itself through the significant economic upliftment it has and will continue to make. All employees working at UHK are from Kathu and the surrounding areas. They receive relevant training in the fields they have been employed in as well as basic training in emergency procedures, first aid and crisis management. These are skills that will not only aid in the work they will do at UHK, but can be used in uplifting communities in general.
The building of UHK has provided ample job opportunities for residents from the area and also only uses local suppliers for all services, from breakfast to laundry and more. In doing so, UHK ensures that its presence in the town creates opportunities for other businesses in the area to profit from its presence.
Convenience and professional service
Urban Hotels opened their first hotel in 2008 in Bloemfontein, building a group on the founding principle of offering customers a relaxed, sophisticated haven to return to after a long day's work and in doing so, enhance the communities in which their hotels are located.
Chief executive officer Beyers Myburgh says that their newest hotel offers "impeccable and professional service, a relaxing atmosphere and beautifully-designed surroundings. The demand for proper accommodation in Kathu is very high, especially because of the mining activities in and around the town." Myburgh says, "We identified a need for accommodation and our model of supply is perfectly catered to the demand. After a hard day's work, Urban Hotel Kathu will offer those traveling to Kathu to do business with the mines in the area an experience never before seen in the town and one that will be very hard to match."
All rooms have air conditioning and DSTV. The hotel serves a continental breakfast in the morning and guests can relax at the U-bar, on the mezzanine, or at the pool after a long day.
The hotel is conveniently located at the corner of Hendrik van Eck and Deben Road, Kathu. It is directly across the road from the mall, a short driving distance from the Sishen and Kolomela Mine and the air strip (where charter flights land).
