Accommodation income down 12,3%

Accommodation income for the hospitality industry fell by 12,3% year-on-year to R1,76-billion according to figures released by Statistics South Africa. Total income for the accommodation industry (which includes restaurant and bar sales) for the three months to July decreased by 19,8%.

Business Live reports that the income from accommodation was down for the three months to July by 31,4% compared with the same period last year.

StatsSA says the decrease was due to a drop in the number of unit nights sold, which fell by 14,1% as well as a decrease of 20,2% in the average spend per unit night sold.
