Catering for a continent
AEC was awarded the contract to deliver the catering for the All African Games, making it arguably the largest scale catering project on our continent this year.
This notion is substantiated by the staggering figures, with a total staff compliment of approximately1500 people they are catering for 6000 athletes, 4500 volunteers and 500 VIP's daily. At the peak of the event, AEC will reach 40 000 meals a day in 6 sites in Brazzaville.
AEC's management team is predominantly South African but they have recruited experts from France, Mauritius, Rwanda, Mali, Senegal, Congo, DRC and Cameroon to ensure a world class, multicultural operation.
Local staffing was a huge focus for AEC. An event like this needs to benefit the country and the people of Congo alike. "We spent two weeks prior to the Games training local unskilled and semi-skilled staff in areas such as kitchen, front of house, back of house, stores and laundry to name but a few" said Christophe Jouet, MD of Africa Events and Catering. "Each staff member will receive a certificate post the African Games. Our hope is that they take this with them into the job market and use this experience in Africa's largest catering event to launch them into a career. Local staff development is pivotal in our strategy for this project"
AEC had the honour of catering for the South African team at a private event last night (hosted by SASCOC, the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee). This event was to celebrate the 170 athletes performance thus far and to keep up the motivation AEC served a Proudly South African menu.
