The Three Cites Riverside Hotel & Spa has been undergoing a phased refurbishment over the last 18 months in order to remain at the forefront of hospitality in Durban.

"We chose to phase the refurbishment process to reduce disruption to our patrons," said Jerod Flaum, the GM.

To date, the Porte Cochêre, reception area and all the rooms on the top floor have been completed. In January this year, work started on the rooms on the second floor and 16 of these will be complete by the end of March 2015. A further 28 rooms will go out of circulation in June and will be completed by the December holiday season.

"We have already received numerous compliments on the new rooms," said Flaum, "and we are looking forward to completing the next phase." The major focus on the refurbishment has been on the bathrooms, which after 15 years had become dated. The new-look bathrooms are contemporary in design and include new tiles, baths, basins, vanities, fixtures and fittings. The refurbished passageways feature stainless steel light fittings, which present a lighter look and are in keeping with the overall aesthetic.

"While our product is improving, we are not ignoring service," commented Flaum, "we are constantly training our staff in areas of service in order to exceed our guest's service expectations."
