Belthazar's theatre of fine food and wine

Follow the lamps on the water's edge at the V&A Waterfront to a wharf warehouse with views of Table Bay and Table Mountain, offering a meat and seafood extravaganza as well as the largest wine-by-the-glass bar in the world - this is Belthazar, a theatre of fine food and wine.

New all-weather dining enclosure and panoramic views

Belthazar’s spectacular new all-weather dining enclosure on the terrace was launched in October. It is equipped with a mist cooling system and heaters and offers panoramic views of the Waterfront and Table Mountain.

Awarded for excellence

Many glowing TripAdvisor reviews over the past year earned Belthazar a TripAdvisor 2016 Certificate of Excellence, a coveted seal of approval for its consistent delivery of excellence and quality customer experience.

In addition, Belthazar has again been honoured for its dedication to wine, in Wine Spectator’s 2016 Restaurant Wine List Awards. Having received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its wine list annually since 2012, this year Belthazar was presented with an even more prestigious award – the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence – awarded to a select group of 1,093 world-class restaurants globally. “These wine lists display excellent breadth across multiple winegrowing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation. Typically offering 350 or more selections, these restaurants are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team”, said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator.

The meat experience

Belthazar’s in-house master butcher ensures that the grain-fed Karan beef is hung on the carcass for three days, and then the Fillet, Sirloin, Rump and Rib-Eye are ‘wet-aged’, while the T-Bone, Chicago Cuts, Fillet on the Bone and Sirloin on the Bone are ‘dry-aged’ for a minimum of 28 days. In addition, Belthazar serves Australian-Tasmanian superior grass-fed marbled beef air-freighted from Cape Grim in the far north-west corner of Tasmania. Shaped by wild Southern Ocean swells, abundant rainfall and the cleanest air in the world, Cape Grim is the perfect place to grow superior beef. Belthazar’s extensive game menu includes ostrich, crocodile, springbok, kudu, impala, wildebeest, blesbok, gemsbok and eland.

A seafood extravaganza

Belthazar imports all its prawns and langoustines from Mozambique and only serves the freshest linefish available. For a real extravaganza, see Belthazar’s Royal Seafood Platter for Two. It includes a whole crayfish, two large langoustines, six medium langoustines, two tiger giant prawns, 2 tiger medium prawns, two king prawns and four queen prawns – perfectly prepared and served with lemon butter, garlic butter and per-peri sauce.
