Showcasing the best emerging African talent - The AFDA Graduation Festival 2018
AFDA, The School for the Creative Economy, is proud to host their annual Graduation Festival.
Our third- and fourth-year students are showcasing the hottest new talent coming out of South Africa from our Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth campuses. For the first time our pioneering AFDA BCom students will also be part of the festival, showcasing their innovative, disruptive, and monetised businesses they have created in their final year.
A record number of over 120 graduate productions from our respective campuses will exhibit; over 70 live action, animation and documentary films, over 10 tele-novella pilots, 12 theatre plays and over 20 live music performance shows (EP releases).
All the productions are assessed by industry professionals, AFDA learning staff members and most importantly the public. The graduation production constitutes 50% of the complete student assessment of the year. This is a critical aspect of the AFDA learning system which encourages students to create market related and culturally relevant entertainment content.
Previous AFDA graduation productions have had huge success locally as well as internationally. In 2006, the AFDA Johannesburg's honours film Elalini, directed by Tristan Holmes won the Student Academy Award for Best Foreign Student Film. AFDA Cape Town honours film Die Windpomp, directed by Corne van Rooyen was turned into a box office hit feature film success story. AFDA graduation films have also won the Best Student Film eight times in the SAFTA's 11-year history. AFDA is a full member of CILECT - the International Association of Accredited Film and Television Schools.
As one of the leading outcomes-based schools in the world. Our students are taught to conceptualise, create and develop indigenous products and commodities for the local and international market. Students are educated not only to forge profitable and sustainable careers in this market, but are encouraged to develop themselves as employment providers - the cultural entrepreneurs of the future. Our alumni have reinvigorated their industries with the quality of their intellectual property, skill and talent. More than 90% of our honours alumni are working and employed in their chosen field of specialisation.
To follow the progress of the AFDA 2018 graduation productions, see posters, trailers, EPKs, behind-the-scenes or follow their social media platforms: https://www.afda.co.za/Student-Work.html.
