RetailQuality over cheap: What South African shoppers now expect from retailers
Mike Elliott 3 minutes

Delivered entirely online through a series of interactive masterclasses, the programme will be led by Ross Symons, ZenRobot co-founder, AI content creator, animator and educator. It focuses on the practical application of generative AI across image creation, visual storytelling, motion, video and audio.
As AI tools continue to expand the possibilities for creative production, the course aims to equip participants with the skills to use these technologies with greater intention, creative control and professional judgement. Rather than focusing solely on generating content, the programme explores how to select the right tools, refine outputs and develop repeatable workflows that can be applied to real-world creative projects.
The course begins with the fundamentals of image generation and prompt development before progressing to visual storytelling, motion and audio production.
Participants will learn to create and refine AI-generated imagery, develop cohesive visual sequences, maintain consistency across characters and projects, and transform still images into motion. The programme also explores how sound design, music and voiceovers can be incorporated into AI-assisted creative work.
Through a combination of practical exercises and guided online learning, participants will investigate how different AI tools can be connected into an effective content-production workflow. The programme concludes with a dedicated online project review session, where selected learner work will be assessed to identify opportunities for refinement, improvement and further experimentation.
The partnership reflects Afda’s commitment to engaging with emerging technologies and preparing creative practitioners to navigate an evolving industry landscape. By making the programme accessible online, participants can develop practical AI skills without needing to attend a physical campus.

The programme comprises three three-hour online teaching sessions, followed by a dedicated online project review.
Session 1: Image generation – Explore generative AI tools, prompting techniques, realism, style references and prompt layering to create more intentional visual outcomes.
Session 2: Visual storytelling – Develop cohesive image sequences, build a six-frame storyboard and use style and character references to maintain consistency.
Session 3: Motion and audio – Transform static visuals into motion using keyframes and transitions, while exploring sound design, music and voiceovers.
Session 4: Project review – Participate in an online review of selected projects, evaluate creative decisions and identify opportunities to improve and refine AI-generated work.
By the end of the course, participants will have explored practical prompting principles, image and video creation, audio integration, visual consistency, AI tool selection and workflow development. An important focus throughout is the role of human creative judgement in evaluating and improving AI-generated outputs.
