Leading works on show at Sanlam Exhibition

The Sanlam Art Collection will exhibit a selection of 40 leading works at Stephan Welz & Co's premises at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia, from 7 December 2011 to 14 January 2012.

The Index: 40 Leading Works from the Sanlam Art Collection Exhibition, includes carefully selected works that are important representations of a subject or period in art history and represent the entire time span that the Sanlam Art Collection covers, from the late 19th century to the present. Many of these works haven't been seen outside of Sanlam before.

"Since 1965, the acquisition of artworks has always been done with advice obtained from respected independent experts in the field. When making acquisitions a set of relevant criteria are followed, backed by experience and knowledge. As a result the collection has over the years acquired a considerable number of historically important South African works," says Stefan Hundt, curator of the Sanlam Art Collection.

Among others, works from Irma Stern, William Kentridge, Anton van Wouw, Edoardo Villa, Kenneth Bakker, Christo Coetzee, Francois Krige and Pieter Hugo Naudé will be exhibited.
